Batik is the traditional art of applying hot wax to fabric which acts as a resist-medium when dyed. The craft has a rich history, mainly in Indonesia but is also popular in China, Japan, India, Africa and parts of Europe. I create contemporary batik using the traditional tchanting tool to apply the liquid hot wax. The colours I use are Procion MX dyes. I am a member of The Batik Guild and I offer workshop tuition for small groups or on a one-to-one basis from my home-studio in Ripley, Derbyshire, UK. I am also available to teach larger groups & societies at other venues across the Midlands and the North of England.
