Batik is the traditional art of adding hot wax to fabric which acts as a resist medium when dyed. The craft developed mainly in Indonesia but is also popular in China, Japan, India and Africa and parts of Europe. I use a tchanting tool to apply the liquid hot wax to fabrics and the colours I use are procion mx dyes. I am a member of The Batik Guild and I am currently experimenting with processes on wood. I offer workshop tuition for small groups or one-to-one classes from my home-studio in Ripley, Derbyshire: Please see www.atticbatik.com for booking details or contact me directly.
